 James Mounce was born at Torrington, Devon on 24 May 1871. A liveryman by trade and residing at Brantford, Ont, he attested to 4th Bn, CEF on 22 Sep 1914 at age 42. At the time, he claimed 6 years previous service with 25th Brant Dragoons. He deployed to the UK with 4th Bn and was appointed Transport Sgt in the UK. He embarked for France on 17 Aug 1915 and served there 16 ½ months until evacuated to England suffering from influenza. Thereafter, he was attached to temporarily to 36th Bn and other units in England. He returned to Canada 25 Feb 1919 and was discharged on demobilization on 20 Mar 1919. He returned to his Militia regiment, now the 10th Dragoons (from 1 Dec 1920.
