Charles Fenn was born at Sheffield, Yorks on 26 Nov 1891. A labourer by trade, living at Victoria, he served 2 ½ years in 18 Field Ambulance, NPAM before attesting as a CAMC reinforcement on 5 Feb 1915 at Victoria. [Note that his service number is just outside the block issued for CAMC Reinforcements and falls within the block issued for the 500 Draft PPCLI Reinforcements.] He embarked for England on 1 May 1915 and briefly to France on 27 Jun 1915 and back to England on 29 Jul to join 1 Cdn Stationary Hospital. He embarked with 1 Cdn Stationary Hospital on 1 Aug for the Dardanelles, landing at West Mudros, near Lemnos, Greece, becoming one of the relatively few Canadians to serve in the Eastern Mediterranean. He suffered from several ailments acquired there and was invalided to England on 24 Dec 1915. Having recovered sufficiently, he was posted to France on 3 Sep 1916 to 7 (Cavalry) Field Ambulance, in the Cdn Cavalry Brigade, where he remained for the duration. He returned to the UK on 18 Apr 1919 and thence to Canada on 21 May. He was discharged on demobilization at Winnipeg on 2 Jun 1919.

C.W. Fenn died in 1939 of causes attributed to his war service and a Memorial Cross [not present with the group] was issued to his mother.

Sold with a full photocopy of his service file from LAC. A good Canadian Dardanelles group.
