BWM: 126416 Pte G.J. Pope, 4-Can. Inf., deeply toned, VF.
George Joseph Pope was born at London, England 26 Feb 1892, was a cabinet maker by trade and a resident of Stratford, Ont, where he had served three years in the 28th Perth Regt when he attested to the 71st Bn CEF on 13 Sep 1915. He subsequently served in the field with the 4th (Central Ontario) Bn [1 Inf Bde, 1st Div]. He died of wounds on 20 Sep 1917 and is buried in the Etaples Military Cemetery, France.
