Thomas Hammett was born 15 Jun 1872 at Plymouth, Devonshire. He was single and a clerk by trade, with 15 years previous service with the 3rd Devon Volunteer Bn when he attested on 17 June 1916, age 45, at Prince George, BC, to the 211th Bn (AB & BC) CEF. That uit sailed from Halifax in the SS Olympic on 12 Dec 1916, arriving in England on 28 Dec 1916. The 211th Bn was absorbed into the Canadian Railway troops on 19 march 1917. Hammett was posted to the 8th Bn, CRT and landed in France on 20 March 1917. He was found medically unfit for service on 12 Aug 1918 and returned to Canada where he was changed at Calgary on 8 Jan 1919 at age 46. He died at age 62 on 29 Aug 1934.
