L/Cpl Jardine served with 10th Bn, Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) in France and Flanders (46 Bde, 15th (Scottish) Div). He was killed in action on 19 Aug 1917 at age 22 during the 1917 Battles of Ypres. He was one of some 10,000 killed among 68,000 British casualties in Aug 1917 in a series of battles north and east of Ypres fought under appalling conditions of rain and mud. He was the only son of William and Isabella Jardine of Broom Isle, Munches, Dalbeattie, Kirkcudbright, Scotland and is buried in the Brandhoek New Military Cemetery No. 3
