Walter Ferguson was born at Aberdeen, Scotland, on 21 Sep 1878. He was a printed by trade and had 12 years previous service with the Royal Artillery. Having immigrated to Canada, he attested to the 21st Bn, CEF, at Kingston on 6 Nov 1914 at the age of 36, becoming an original member of the 21st Bn. He was single at the time, listing his next of kin as his sister, Mrs. Ellen Fraser of Bengouchels, Scotland. He sailed with the battalion from Montreal on 20 May 1915. He served in France for 8 1/2 months from Sept 1915 but was invalided to the UK with a tumor in his right arm, which was surgically removed.  He was struck off strength of the 21st BN on 31 May 1916 and remained in England for the rest of the war, posted to the Eastern Ontario Regt Depot, and other units in the UK. He married, lived in London and was discharged on demobilization in England on 16 Aug 1919.

Sold with a copy of his attestation paper from his LAC file and a copy of the roll of the 21st Bn page from the unit history.  His complete service file is available on the LAC website for Soldiers of the Great War.

A good First World War group.
