Harold Claud Brown was born at Moncton, NB on 25 Dec 1894. He worked as a locomotive fireman and had no previous military service when he attested to the 26th New Brunswick Bn, CEF at St. John on 10 Nov 1914 shortly before his 21st birthday.

He sailed for England with his battalion aboard the SS Caledonia, arriving on 25 Jan 1915.  He embarked for France on 19 Oct 1915.  He was appointed A/Cpl and A/CQMS both on 14 Oct 1916 and confirmed in rank on 23 Mar 1917 and reverted to Sgt at his own request on 1 Sept 1917. He was hospitalized in England on 20 Oct 1917 and returned to the 26th Bn on 7 Feb 1918. He was promoted WOII and appointed CSM on 23 Jan 1919.  He returned to Canada to No. 7 District Depot, St. John in May 1919 where he was discharged on demobilization on 22 May 1919.

Sold with copied extracts from his LAC service file plus 2 original documents: his Certificate of Military Qualification for "Cavalry" in 8th PL NB) Hussars, dated 4 May 1928 and CNR Railways certificate of employment dated 14 Jun 1941, and a copied 8 x 10 photo of his as a Sgt, 26 Bn wearing the MM ribbon.

A good triple gallantry group despite some unfortunate history with the service medals.
