George Joseph Pope was born at London, England 26 Feb 1892, was a cabinet maker by trade and a resident of Stratford, Ont, where he had served three years in the 28^th Perth Regt when he attested to the 71^st Bn CEF on 13 Sep 1915. He subsequently served in the field with the 4^th (Central Ontario) Bn [1 Inf Bde, 1^st Div]. He died of wounds on 20 Sep 1917 and is buried in the Etaples Military Cemetery, France.
