Harry Long, a native of Hamilton, Ont, was born 25 Sep 1897. He was a teamster by trade when he attested to the 129th (Wentworth) Bn, CEF at Dundas, Ont on 19 Jan 1916. The battalion sailed 29 Aug 1916 and was absorbed into the Canadian Corps reinforcement system in England. At some point, Harry Long was transferred to the 198th (Canadian Buffs) Bn, CEF and for some reason remained in England. Thus, this is his only medal. Medals to numbered battalions that were not part of the Cdn Corps are rare.
